How
Were You Parented?

Explore
what limitations and gifts you might have inherited
from your parents. Just as surely as you
will pass on green eyes or black hair so to do
you have the potential to hand these positive
and negative elements to your child. You
might begin by drawing a line down the middle
of a sheet of paper. On one side, list five
gifts you received from your parents -- time,
attention, opportunity, faith -- whatever you
hold as meaningful in your life. On the
other side, list five things your parents did
that presented challenges for you later in life.
Ask your partner to make his own list then combine
the two as a starting point for thoughtful discussion
about your intentions as parents. How do you want
your child to feel; accepted, loved,
cherished, free, heard, trusted?
Use your powerful imagination to create a clear
picture of the parent you would like to become.
The flow of Divine energy between you and your
vision of yourself as a mother is fluid. Creative
visualization helps dissolve barriers and fears
and allows us to more easily manifest our good.
Take time to open to your imagination and form
the visions and intentions of yourself as a parent.
Ask for wisdom and observe the shift of this energy,
the ever-ready images and promptings will form
when you make space for them.
